stuff we love!

It's important to know good information from bad, because bad info and techniques could potentially be harmful to your dog and your training progress. Here are some of my recommendations that will hopefully steer you away from non-useful training techniques and equipment.

Books

The Culture Clash (second Edition) by Jean Donaldson: An excellent read that is written with a scientific foundation yet still accessible for the everyday dog owner. Everyone living with a dog should read this valuable resource in teaching perspective and training technique.
How to Teach a New Dog Old Tricks by Dr. Ian Dunbar: Written by the founder of the Association of Pet Dog Trainers (APDT), who is a very experienced and innovative dog trainer himself. Great tips for training technique and good humor as well.
Bones Would Rain from the Sky by Suzanne Clothier: Great relationship building advice. Also helps you gain the proper dog-friendly perspective.
The Other End of the Leash by Patricia McConnell: Another great read that was written by an experienced PhD in animal behavior who has spent many years working with reactive dogs. This book will help you understand your dog's behavior from a very human perspective, and human behavior from a dog's perspective!
